Kent Carty has been instructed by a number of clients to bring High Court actions against several hospitals for MRSA infections. It is claimed that whilst in hospital receiving treatment for common procedures, clients suffered a hospital-acquired infection (MRSA) which went on to cause serious personal injury or death.
There are guidelines and procedures in hospitals to prevent and control this type of infection. Whilst some patients are screened for the infection, the screening procedure may vary from patient to patient. Where a hospital identifies a patient infected with MRSA, medication should be commenced immediately. MRSA which wards off antibiotics such as penicillin and amoxicillin often occurs in patients with weakened immune systems or those undergoing surgery.
In some cases patients were screened and found to be free of the virus on entering hospital but later went on to develop serious MRSA infection following surgery.
